Renovated Alzheimer’s unit brings Mayor of Bedford to Garden Villa
Garden Villa receives community support in celebration of new renovations
On Aug. 19, 2010 celebrated the newly renovated Alzheimer’s unit with a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring Mayor of Bedford Shawna Girgis.
The open house allowed the Bedford community to take a tour of the updated unit and browse its new features. Renovations include improvements to common recreational space adding updated flooring, furnishings and windows that brighten the center. Additions to the shower facilities also create a therapeutic environment for its patients.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled for the new renovations to the Alzheimer’s unit,” said Tammy Keenan, director of public relations. “This can only add to the quality of care we already provide to our current patients, as well as our future patients. The facility continues to improve the quality of stay by improving its appearance indoors and outdoors, including the recent installation of an outdoor waterfall, visible from the new 4-by-8 windows located in the dining area.
Garden Villa is a full-service rehabilitation center for long- and short-term stays that offers a variety of rehab services, including senior flex programs and 24-hour respiratory therapy. Services for younger patients in need of customized care are fulfilled at the on-site children’s facility, Michael’s House.

Rehab staff honored as one of Top 12 programs nationwide
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.— Garden Villa’s standard of exceptional care has garnered national attention among the rehabilitation center’s peers. The Bloomington, Ind.-based center was the recipient of the first-ever Outstanding Program Performance Award.
The Outstanding Program Performance Award recognizes exceptional program performance for patients and clients. Garden Villa was recognized to represent Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.
“We are honored to receive this award in recognition of our rehabilitation facility,” said Tammy Keenan, director of admissions/social services for Garden Villa. “We are committed to serving our community with the best staff and services possible, and this award represents our excellence in our dedication to our patients.”
The rehabilitation center at Garden Villa is a separate unit with its own nursing staff and dining area, and offers private orthopedic suites for added comfort in recovery. Garden Villa’s comprehensive rehab center provides services for inpatient, outpatient, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, respiratory therapy and aquatic therapy with a HydroWorx therapeutic pool.
